Leaving behind a career and company can be one of those bitter sweet moments in life. On the one hand, you get to finally put to rest the daily 9-5 routine and instead live out your twilight years in peace and with enjoyment. But on the other, you are leaving behind a lot of what you have known for year, including the people you have stood side by side with every weekday for potentially decades.
But that is what makes the retirement party such a great event, and it is why we at Hog Roast Tollesbury have always loved being a part of them as a caterer. This past week it was the turn of Richard, a longtime Hog Roast Tollesbury customer, to say goodbye to his career and work life in style with the aid of friends, family, colleagues, and his favourite Hog Roast Tollesbury buffet!
Richard is retiring later than many. He just did not want to leave his beloved work life and company behind, even when he could have some time ago. Having worked from the bottom right up to an executive position in his firm over the last 36 years, Richard now is finally ready to hang up shirt and tie for good at the bright age of 71 – but even that came at a struggle after plenty of coaxing. We were told by the man himself that it took a lot of convincing from both family and even colleagues. He loved his work so much that it took a lot to relent, but perhaps it was the added dangling carrot of his very own Hog Roast Tollesbury catered retirement party that finally pushed him into the decision!
As expected, the night was indeed bitter sweet, though we can only hope that the presence of his favoured succulent lamb roast in our Hog Roast Tollesbury buffet helped added more sweet than bitter to Richard’s night. Our buffet came in between a number of speeches from past and present colleagues, before one final one from Richard himself which barely left a dry eye in the whole place!
As a favoured customer of ours for many years, we hope all the best for Richard in retirement. Of course, we know that he knows that his favourite Hog Roast Tollesbury team is always here anytime he gets bored and hungry!
